The event will take place on May 29-30, 2026, in the vibrant city of Madrid, bringing together experts, scholars, and practitioners from around the world to share their insights and research findings in the field of banking and finance. The conference will be held in collaboration with the Eurasia Business and Economics Society (EBES) as a hybrid event with both online and in-person presentation at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Complutense University of Madrid, providing participants with the flexibility to present their research either via the Zoom platform or in-person, ensuring inclusivity and global reach.

The program includes keynote addresses, full-length and letter format research paper presentations, paper development workshop for doctoral students and early-stage scholars, and early-stage ideas forum with input from experts and editors of leading academic journals. Selected papers presented at the conference will also have the opportunity to be considered for publication in journals associated with the conference. In line with our conference theme and sub-themes, we invite the submission of original research that contribute to the advancement of the field of banking and finance.

Submission Guidelines

The submission for the GLOBAFA Conference is open. The deadline to submit an extended abstract or a complete paper is April 19, 2026. All submissions (papers and abstracts) are evaluated using a double blind reviewing process. The decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of each extended abstract/paper are communicated to the corresponding author within two weeks of submission, with the first responses sent by March 1, 2026. If the paper is accepted for presentation at the conference, the participant is expected to serve as a discussant or session chair in one of the sessions.

GLOBAFA Conference offers four distinct participation options: standard session presentation, short article presentation, paper development workshop, and early-stage ideas forum.

  • Standard Sessions (in-person or online): The participants can present their complete and/or incomplete full-length articles. The paper presentations will offer the scholars and professionals the opportunity to exchange cutting-edge research and insights. The standard paper presentations are 15-minute presentations followed by a discussion led by an assigned discussant for 10 minutes. Full-paper submission is optional, whereas an extended abstract of the paper with at least 400 words is required to be considered for the submission. All abstracts should be submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF format and English, including the title, authors’ names, affiliation, and contact information of the authors. Abstracts should include Objectives, Data and Methods, Results, and Conclusions. JEL classification and up to 6 keywords should be used. The preferred mode of participation (in-person or online) should be indicated at the time of submission.

  • Letter/Short Article Presentations (in-person or online): The aim of the short article presentations is to offer researchers a platform to share their novel work prepared for publication in letter format. Different from standard sessions, complete short papers of around 3,000 words are considered for the submission. Each presenter is expected to present their research in short presentations for up to 7 minutes followed by a brief Q&A. The short article presentations are expected to communicate novel findings and contributions in the field of banking and finance with brief introduction, data and methodology, results, and discussion. The preferred mode of participation (in-person or online) should be indicated at the time of submission.

  • Paper Development Workshop (online only): The aim of the paper development workshop is to promote excellent research in the area of banking and finance, specifically tailored for advanced doctoral students and early-stage scholars within three years of completing their degrees. The workshop offers early career scholars the opportunity to present their research and to discuss its research design and methodology with leading journal editors and experts. Only a limited number of researchers will be selected for the paper development workshop on a first come first served basis. Submitted papers must be at the mid or later stage of development and should include preliminary analysis or results. Participants should provide documentation from their university or institute indicating the start date and (expected) end date of their doctoral degree. Each participant is limited to submitting one paper in the paper development workshop.  Participation of doctoral students is highly encouraged and will be given priority. If a submitted work for the paper development workshop is not accepted, the paper can be presented at regular sessions.

  • The Early Stage Ideas Forum (in-person only): The Early Stage Ideas Forum welcomes submissions from researchers at all career stages who are looking to stress test a developing research idea or project. This session is intended for work that has not yet matured into a full paper, such as projects where the core research question, theoretical framing, or methodological approach is still being refined. Selected participants (6-10) will deliver a concise pitch (5-7 minutes) summarizing the key aspects of their project. A panel of senior scholars will then provide rapid, direct, and high-impact feedback, challenging assumptions and identifying strengths, weaknesses, and potential blind spots. The tone is intentionally fast paced and evaluative, offering an opportunity to clarify direction, avoid pitfalls, or rethink key elements before larger investments are made. The forum is designed for researchers who view early feedback as an opportunity to strengthen the foundations and trajectory of their work while it remains flexible. Submissions should consist of a 2-page pitch based on Faff’s Pitching Research (2024) framework and be approximately 1,000 words, structured around key elements including the working title, research question, core papers, motivation, idea, data, tools, novelty, contribution, and other considerations. Please use the template HERE for submission.

Interested in organizing a session? If you would like to propose an organized session, please get in touch with Prof. Ender Demir by email ([email protected]), including its subject and format, along with a list of presenters interested in attending the session.
